Heatwave: tips to avoid heat exhaustion

Cycling in extreme heat is achievable, but it requires adjusting your pace and adopting new habits.

A few helpful reminders to keep in mind...

  • Drink every 30 minutes (plan for at least 1.5L per person for half a day of cycling)
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade.
  • Cycle early in the day and avoid the 12pm-3pm time slot.
  • Protect your head.
  • Don't skimp on sunscreen.
  • Sensitive skin: wear long sleeves.
  • More than ever, offer help to those in difficulty... and don't hesitate to ask for it yourself!

Find water points along the route

  1. Go to the route page or one of the stages
  2. Click on the filter and select "Water points"

Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink. If you run out of water, don't hesitate to ask a local or shopkeeper to refill your water bottle.
